Judge David N. Stansbury
David N. Stanbury, a Licking County native, has been a judge on the Licking County Municipal Court since July 12, 2010. He was last elected to a full, six-year term in 2011 and is running for re-election in 2017. He is the immediate past Administrative and Presiding judge of the Court. Judge Stansbury has presided over the LIFT Court docket since taking the bench. LIFT Court is the drug court specialized docket program which has been certified by the Ohio Supreme Court since 2014.
Judge Stansbury is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association and the Licking County Bar Association. He serves as Chair of the LCBA Municipal Court Civil Law Committee and is a member of the Municipal Court Criminal Law Committee. He is also a member of the Ohio Judicial Conference for which he is a member of the Specialized Dockets and Criminal Law and Procedure committees. Judge Stansbury has belonged to the Association of Municipal and County Court Judges of Ohio since 2010. He is a proud member of the National Association of Drug Court Professionals, an organization which supports drug courts and specialized docket programs throughout the United States.
Since graduating from Boston University School of Law in 1996, Judge Stansbury has spent his entire professional career in Licking County. While at BUSL, he was an articles editor for the International Law Journal. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in history, with a minor in Russian language and culture, in 1993 from The Ohio State University where he was a member of the honors college and Phi Alpha Theta National Honorary History Society. Judge Stansbury studied Russian language, history, and culture at Moscow State University in Moscow, Russia in 1992 with the Institute for Russian and Baltic Studies and earned a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
Born in Newark, Ohio to Gary and Judy (Ratliff) Stansbury, Judge Stansbury graduated as president of the National Honor Society at Granville High School, where he also served as vice-president of the class of 1988. He played varsity tennis and football, where he was a senior co-captain and team co-MVP, earning all-LCL honors on both offense and defense.
Judge Stansbury is a current member of the Board of Directors for Hospice of Central Ohio, located in Newark, Ohio, which provides end of life and palliative care for patients throughout the region. He was a member and vice-president of the Licking County Alcoholism Prevention Program ("LAPP") Board of Directors. He also served as a board member and advisor to the Granville Recreation Committee and Granville Recreation District, respectively. He volunteered as flag football coach at Licking County YMCA for three years.
With his wife, Cathy, their daughter, Catie, and his stepsons, Alex James and Josh James, Judge Stansbury lives in Newark.
